Hello all, and welcome to our June update!
We were at Strathclyde last week for one of our community meetings and lots of lovely things went on, from thinking about Psychological Safety to Lego Serious Play – you can get a flavour of them from the Padlet, or from Lynn Pilkington’s LinkedIn post. We try and have these twice a year, moving around the country, next in person is due in November time, somewhere further South- probably Manchester? Hoping to confirm venue and date soon. We’ve started online ones too and will try and hold the next online one before the November meeting, ideas welcome for a theme…
Liz Cable and Laura Mitchell have pulled together a Call for Papers for a special issue of the Journal of Play in Adulthood, launched at the UKGE where Liz is running their first academic track right now! The call’s theme is Table top games for learning: Designing and using games in learning, teaching, and assessment. See the call for fuller details! Submission of papers is due 1st October.
Nic Whitton is leading RE:PLAY, which we’re chuffed to say has been funded, a project many PLA members are involved with. There will be more news following when it launches in the summer! Nic, together with Alex Moseley, have also had a WONKHE article just published on Playful Leadership in Higher Ed.
Lots of congratulations too are due to the fabulous Daisy Abbot on gaining her PhD in Playful Learning (Game-based approaches in the teaching and learning of critical and research skills in Higher Education). Not only that, she’s pulled together her research as a series of video abstracts for you to watch!
We’ll hopefully see many of you for surprises and disguises (that’s the theme!) at PL25 at Brighton in July. Places are now sold out for the conference, but there is a waiting list in case of cancellations…
