Memes as a means of reflection on class content

Encouraging students to actively reflect on class content can be a tricky process, using memes was found to help that process in a playful, fun manner.

Students were asked to create a meme at the end of the lecture session which reflected something they had learnt in the lesson; these were then shared anonymously via a class Padlet.

Not only did this activity help students to actively reflect on their learning, but it was also found to be broadly inclusive of gender and age. It also gave the educator a real time insight into what the students were learning and remembering from the lesson. In addition, students found the activity to be fun and engaging.

Guidance on how to create and share memes has been shared as well as the resulting publication from the research.
