Can you help us bring quick moments of joy, energy and interaction to lectures?
David Anderson, supported by the PLA, is launching No More Boring Lectures! (NMBL), a collaborative initiative to curate playful, 5 minute, ready to run activities that any educator can drop into their sessions, regardless of subject, class size or mode of delivery.
Our aim is to build an open access deck of 20+ single slide activities, each paired with a short activity guide. Whether you have a quick icebreaker, a reflection prompt or a low stakes game, if it is simple, adaptable and brings energy to a session, we would love to include it.
How to Get Involved
We want to make sharing your ideas as easy as possible. You can submit your contribution in one of two ways:
- Submit via Form: Fill out our quick NMBL Submission Form to send us your idea directly.
- Use the Template: Download the NMBL Slide Template (78k .pptx download), complete the activity and guide slides and email them to David Anderson at danderson@lincoln.ac.uk.
Example & Template Structure
To give you an idea of what we are looking for, check out the example activity “Are we on the same wavelength?” from the PL26 Conference shown below:

- Slide 1: Title and contributors.
- Slide 2: The Activity Slide – A fully formatted, ready to run slide that can be used directly in a session.
- Slide 3: Activity Guide – A brief rundown covering objectives, how to play, preparation, educational value, variations, debrief questions and top tips.
Timeline
- August 2026: Phase 1 – collect contributions from the PLA community
- September 2026: Phase 2 – collect contributions from the wider community
- October 2026: Final slide deck prepared and circulated
- December 2026: Evaluation of NMBL and recommendations for future iterations
Deadline for Phase 1 submissions: Friday 28th August 2026
Let’s work together to make lectures across disciplines a little more joyful and interactive!
